How to Buy Your First Wig [for Beginners]
WIGS! have [seriously] been my favorite hairstyle for the past 4 years. Yes, they can be controversial, kinda scary, but also very easy to wear. I love how versatile they are and how I am almost able change my whole personality - I mean look- within minutes, sometimes even seconds —it’s magical, I tell you!
Today I wanted to share some of my favorite places to shop for wigs and also some of my go-to wigs. Now these aren’t the wigs that look like “I’M OBVIOUSLY WEARING A WIG”. These wigs are subtle and surprisingly, IN STYLE!
QUICK! disclaimer: I am a lover of synthetic wigs. I think it’s a great way to try out wigs without spending a lot of money on something you’re not sure you’re even going to like. If you’re creative with how to style your synthetic wig, it can fool a lot of people ;)
NOWWWWW, — let’s get started.
HOW TO BUY YOUR FIRST WIG:
The first thing I would do is choose a style.
Do you want it curly? Straight? Maybe you want it wavy?
2. After your style is selected your next step is to decide the type: half wig vs lace wig.
Half wigs can be worn with very little hair out to make it look as natural as possible. Lace wigs are to be worn with no hair out, so it’s a completely protective style.
3. After you decide your style and type of wig you are ready to start searching for your first wig!
There are a lot of sites you can purchase a wig from but before I check out those sites I usually go to YouTube. My favorite Youtubers who review wigs are:
After watching a few of these ladies you’ll be able to see how they transform the wigs to look good. These videos are important to watch because you should not be wearing your wig straight out the bag. ALWAYS customize the wig.
REMEMBER: Wigs are not to be worn straight out the bag!
Now that you’ve checked out a few YouTubers, (hopefully you wrote down a couple of wig names), you are ready to go shopping! Here is a list of sites for you to purchase a wig from:
My go-to sites for wig purchases are:
There are tons of sites to order wigs from. I would use this page as a bookmark so you can revisit it if you’re on the hunt for a certain wig (especially when it starts to sell out).
4. Another way to shop for wigs is to go straight to the website and check out the best sellers or new arrivals and then search them on Youtube.
I shop this way at least once a month.
5. My final way to shop for wigs is to check out the wig company’s Instagram pages and find the names of the wigs that way.
No matter which way you search, I am sure once you start searching you will find a lot of wigs you will want to try!
Before you order, one thing I always look out for is the cap size.
If you have a big head, you’ll want to look out for comments to see if the wig is “big head friendly”.
After all the researching it is FINALLY time for you to purchase your wig. I am highly passionate about the research process ESPECIALLY with synthetic wigs because it cans save you a lot of time and money. A lot of time people are scared of wigs because they aren’t sure which ones look real versus the ones that look like a part of a halloween costume. Trust me ladies I have your back!
I hope this blog post helped out a ton with you searching for your first wig! These same tips can be applied to purchasing a human hair wig as well. Check out some of my wig videos and let me know if you’d ever purchase and WEAR a wig!
Until next time my loves!
